Row over TV girl's MP bid

Written by Tom Newton Dunn and published in The Sun on Tue 23rd Mar 2010

LABOUR bosses were slammed last night for parachuting in a sexy TV host to fight a safe seat.

Busty former GMTV political correspondent Gloria De Piero, 37, beat a series of local candidates to the nomination.

But constituency rivals questioned whether she can win over voters in Ashfield, Notts - and accused Labour of taking locals for granted.

Lib Dem Stuart Bray said: "She was born in Bradford and lives in London. She can't pretend to understand the issues Ashfield faces."

But Miss De Piero - a favourite of Tony Blair and who once beat Kate Moss in a sexiest women poll - said: "I'll live in the constituency and listen to the voters."

Departing MP Geoff Hoon, the ex-Defence Secretary, was voted in at Ashfield with a 10,000 majority in 2005.
