Prospective Parliamentary Candidate
Alistair Stevens
Alistair Stephens sets out Fair Policies for High Peak
The Liberal Democrats' new Prospective Parliamentary Candidate, local cricketer Alistair Stephens, relishes a tough match.
As a former Lancashire player and current trainer of High Peak's young cricketers, Alistair Stevens plays to win. He has pledged to knock Labour and the Tories for six to bring real change and fair policies to High Peak.
He and his Liberal Democrat team are campaigning for:
· Fair tax system. No income tax for low paid and young people earning less than £10,000 a year. Top earners will pay more.
· Fairer voting system. An end to the first-past-the-post system and the right to sack your MP if he does not perform.
· Better education policies. Smaller classes, plus 1-to-1 tuition and catch-up classes to help those who are falling behind.
Alistair Stevens says his High Peak Priorities if elected MP will be:
· Sustainable jobs. More help for young jobless in High Peak where youth unemployment is above the national average.
· More affordable housing. More new homes and help for local people who can't afford to buy in the borough. More housing association homes to rent.
· Better public transport. More trains and more buses at fair prices for people living in High Peak.
· A fair deal for hill farmers. Tough new policies for higher farm gate prices. An ombudsman to force supermarkets to pay farmers fair prices.
Alistair Stevens believes High Peak is ready for change: 'Voters across High Peak tell me they are sick of ping-pong politics. I have two sons voting in a general election for the first time. They say young people just don't buy into the fudging and fiddling of old-style politics.'
'I'm promising a fresh start and fair policies if you give me your vote.'
