Alistair Stevens Campaigning in the High Peak

Is this Fair?

12.00.00am GMT Thu 18th Mar 2010

So, has Tory parliamentary candidate Andrew Bingham accepted £110,000 from UK tax-avoider Lord Ashcroft to fund his campaign, or not? Are we to believe him or the Independent newspaper? I look forward to reading shortly that writs have been issued against the Indy by Messrs Sue, Grabbit and Run for besmirching Cllr Bingham's good name.

Meanwhile, the Tories seem happy to keep noble lords like Ashcroft and Archer in the party - whatever their transgressions - but have thrown out their highly-respected former leader in Europe, Edward McMillan-Scott. He objected to his party working with Polish right-wingers in Europe with an anti-semitic, homophobic and racist track record.

Mr McMillan-Scott joined the Lib Dems at the weekend after loyally working for the Tories for 43 years. He says the Tories are 'twisted' and 'not a nice party now'.
