David is new Mayor

WHALEY Bridge Liberal Democrat Councillor David Lomax is the new Mayor of High Peak.

Proposing the move, fellow Liberal Democrat councillor Ray Atkins said since elected in 1991 his colleague, who was council leader from 2003-2007, had been re-elected ever since.

Conservative Cllr John Faulkner said: "David had fulfilled practically every role in this council. He has demonstrated over the years his commitment to the communities he serves and I can't think of anyone better to serve as mayor."

Cllr Lomax said: "It is a great privilege and provides a unique opportunity to see and support charity organizations. One of most important roles of the mayor is to bestow on these organisations the recognition of High Peak Borough Council."

New councillor Pat Jenner is the new Deputy Mayor in recognition of the huge contribution to his local community in Tintwistle.

Outgoing Mayor Graham Oakley, Deputy Mayor Stewart Young and their consorts were thanked for their efforts over the last 12 months.
